AJOL launched a new full text functionality on 1st May 2009. As a result, visits to the website have jumped by over 30%. Before the re-launch, monthly visitor numbers were around 60,000 and since the full text was added, this number has increased to an average of over 80,000 visits each month from all over the world.
AJOL has formed an agreement with CrossRef to add Digital Object Identifiers (DOI’s) to the full text of articles of AJOL journal partners .
Digital Object Identifiers are very useful, because they allow someone to find the digital item wherever it is on the internet, even if it moves from one website to another. DOI’s are being used more and more internationally as part of referencing of articles.
